Lateral Leg Positioner

Leg Tunnel 2

A portable lateral positioning device that is easy to use and provides the surgeon with a stable working platform. The Leg Tunnel also cradles the down leg and provides a sustainable, safe, and comfortable position for the patient. The Leg Tunnel turns complex lateral positioning of a patient into a simple and consistent process that is easy for all members of the operating room to master.

  • A consistent, safe, and strong surface for lower extremity cases in the lateral position
  • Easy and reproducible lateral positioning for all members of the OR staff
  • Can be used for ORIF of calcaneal fractures, acetabular fractures, and bone grafting procedures of the ankle

Bone Foam Leg Tunnel

Consistent lateral positioning of a patient can be challenging for multiple reasons including availability of OR staff, body habitus of the patient, and the size of the surgical field required for a successful surgery. The Leg Tunnel makes proper positioning of the patient in the lateral decubitus position reproducible and easy for all OR staff.

The Leg Tunnel has a cut-out for the contralateral leg which rests the leg in comfortable, flexed-knee position. The Leg Tunnel can be used for multiple lower extremity procedures including ORIF of the calcaneus and acetabulum. The operative surface is large and dense, which  creates an ideal surface for fracture reduction and fixation.

The Leg Tunnel  is covered with a protective vinyl coating that makes it easy to disinfect for repeated use. The Leg Tunnel is lightweight, easy to store, and easily attaches to the operative table with built in straps.

  • Straps secure the device easily to the OR table
  • Tunnel designed to easily off-set the extremities for imaging
  • Consistency in complex lateral positioning cases

Clinical Insights and Benefits

The Leg Tunnel provides a wide and extremely stable platform for a variety of procedures performed in the lateral decubitus position. The Leg Tunnel creates a comfortable position for the patient by cradling the down leg from the hip to the ankle. The design of the Leg Tunnel saves valuable time in OR time by identifying anatomical landmarks of the lower extremity which allows all OR staff to consistently and accurately position the patient in the lateral position.

The surface of the Leg Tunnel is a large and stable platform made of cross linked foam that is comfortable for both the surgeon and the patient. The Leg Tunnel can be used in lower extremity cases that require utilization of the lateral position while protecting the down leg. It’s ideal for a lateral approach ORIF of the calcaneus and bone grafting procedures to the ankle. The stable surface allows the surgeon to efficiently reduce the fracture and avoid loss of reduction during fixation.

  • Consistent and accurate patient positioning by all staff members saving valuable OR time
  • Ideal for multiple lower extremity procedures including: ORIF of calcaneus and acetabular fractures as well bone grafting procedures of the ankle
  • Specialized design to cradles the down leg in a comfortable, flexed-knee position
  • All Leg Tunnels are radiolucent and elevate the operative extremity above the contralateral leg to provide clearance for intraoperative C-Arm imaging

Radiolucent patient positioning

Our foam is radiolucent and does not leave artifact during imaging.  With Bone Foam positioning systems, accurate imaging is no longer complicated or hard to achieve.  Our radiolucent foam keeps the down leg off-set from the operative limb to achieve a clear final image.

Saves valuable OR time

Using a consistent and effective method of positioning can save you valuable minutes in the OR.  Bundling, stacking and positioning towels can be burdensome and extremely repetitive when preparing for a case. By using a lateral positioning method that is specifically designed and has precise angles and measurements instead of using towel bundles or other makeshift methods, you can save valuable minutes per case, resulting in more cases a week, and annually. The Leg Tunnel makes it easy to achieve consistent and accurate lateral positioning.

Leg Tunnel

The leg tunnel helps position patients when a lateral position is required and accommodates the down leg while providing top leg support for the surgeon.
The leg tunnel creates a stable, flat predictable surface on which to work, with plenty of mobility for imaging away from the down leg.
